Adeneye highlights the thrills in Abeokuta Golf Course
Captain of Abeokuta Golf Club (AGC), Kola Adeneye, has highlighted what makes the golf course in Abeokuta enjoyable to golfers and stands it out from other courses in the country.
The golf course is described as a unique one in the sense that its topography is challenging, with the course snaking up and down. This means that a round of golf sessions on the course would have translated to a 10-kilometre distance of the walk, which is very good for your health, said Adeneye.
According to the captain, Abeokuta Golf course is located in a serene environment, just behind the state government secretariat, which gives golfers a sense of security because the course is situated in a secure environment and in an ambience devoid of noise or any city life interference.
He added: “Abeokuta Golf Club is a destination of golf so to say when you talk of where the game of golf can be better enjoyed, especially among golf courses in the South/West geo-political zone of the country.”
Adeneye explained that he derives much from playing golf because it improves his health and makes him look fitter, adding, “when I play golf it makes me sleep very well and all my system will revert to normal.”
While explaining what he has been able to do since he came into office as a captain, Adeneye told The Guardian that his administration has made the maintenance of the course a priority and even doing it better than the way they met it.
“We are maintaining it such that all the fairways and the greens are playable, and by the grace of God, we have been able to add ultra-modern conveniences, which entails good bathrooms and toilets with constant water supply. We also have a very good kitchen and a functional bar as we are trying to put up a pavilion by extending the one we have now to contain more people for socials.
“I have continued to drive membership because when we are many, it becomes merrier. We have been able to provide potable water that had eluded the club for many years; lack of potable water was a challenge we contended with for long because when players finished their rounds of play, they will want to refresh by taking a good bath, but now we have a very good water supply.”
He explained that he decided to create an office for the captain in order to have where to host visitors, adding: “We have also introduced the range in addition to what we met on ground.
“The ranges comprise practice bunkers and practicing greens, which are used by golfers. We have also constructed a car parking lot near the tee-off point, although it is still under construction.
“We also want to do irrigation close to some of our holes because we discovered these days it is always dry. Now with the irrigation, it will always be green for players to enjoy their games,” Adeneye enthused.
