Abeokuta Golf Club seeks Academy
Abeokuta Golf Club has called for the Ogun State Government to establish a Golf Academy in the state.
The President of the club, Venerable Olukunmi Adekunke, said the academy would help to curb drug abuse, cultism, insurgency, militancy and kidnapping in the state.
Adekunle made the call on Friday ahead of an amateur golf competition to celebrate the sixth year anniversary of the Ibikunle Amosun administration.
He also urged the government to include golf in its budgetary allocation and encourage the sport in the extra-curricular activities of primary and secondary schools in the state.
He said, “The competition is an avenue to support the governor and showcase his achievements in the physical, industrial and recreational development of the state.
“When the government encourages golf, the nation becomes well-positioned for progress and development.”
Adekunle added, “It is our desire to establish a golf academy for youths and promote the sport for health for all.”
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Afolabi Afuape, represented by the Director of Sports at the ministry, Mr. Adesola Faleti, explained that the state government was committed to rebuilding youths through sports towards becoming better citizens of the state.
